Olympic Dreams ~ Hockey Book Inspiration

I'm always so inspired by the Olympics.

Yes, hockey is my favorite sport, but I enjoy watching all of the Olympic events. The athletes work so hard and are so diligent and persistent in reaching their goals. It just reminds the rest of us to Never Give Up!

Which Winter Olympic event is your favorite?

R U Mine?

My favorite band, Arctic Monkeys, opened the Brit Awards by playing my favorite song!

By the way, they also won Album of the Year and Best British Group ;)

So long, Sony

Sony has announced the imminent closure of its Sony Reader Store in the US and Canada. The store will remain in operation until March 20, after which it will cease ebook sales.

On or around March 20, my book listings at Sony will disappear. According to my publisher, you will have ample opportunity to backup your purchases. Kobo will assume control over Sony's customers' libraries, enabling Sony customers to move to Kobo and maintain access to your books.

You can find more info about the closure of Sony's Reader Store here.

The Great Backyard Bird Count

The GBBC is here!

From previous posts, you know I love watching birds from my window while I'm (supposed to be!) working on my next book. I've had countless hummingbirds, woodpeckers and every sparrow imaginable in my little backyard. I try to snap photos of them, but they move so quickly that I'm rarely successful. Whether I can capture them on film or not, they sure are fun to watch!

Be sure to pick up a copy of my latest book, Wild Ice, which was inspired by my visits to the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge. Wild Ice, the third book in the Razors Ice series, is available at Amazon and Barnes & Noble.

Happy Birding!

Sweethearts

Oh, hey, Valentine's Day~you snuck up on us again.

As a romance author, I probably shouldn't tell you this, but Valentine's Day was never my favorite holiday. I didn't have a special sweetheart in school and had to endure sitting back and watching my classmates receive balloons and flowers on the dreaded Day of Love. Later, when I finally found a sweetheart of my own, I was thrilled to receive enough chocolate and roses to make up for those years of disappointment. Now, I'm content to find the romance in each day and don't necessarily find the need to cram it all into one day just because that's what the calendar tells us to do.

So, whether you have a special sweetheart of your own or not, Happy Heart Day!

xoxo

Stunning Birds

Here's a little gem I forgot all about...

I created this board on Pinterest long before I knew I was going to write about birds in Wild Ice!

They are a lot more colorful than the birds found at the Red Valley National Wildlife Refuge in Hayley's Point, but they are pretty nonetheless.

Welcome Home

There's a new addition to the Vaughn family!

I'd like you to meet Minny, our new Robo Dwarf Hamster.

I've never had a hamster before (not even when I was a kid) and I never even had a desire to have one, but sometimes the unexpected happens...

Hubby and I were 80 miles away from home on a little shopping trip. We decided to walk through the pet store while we were waiting for a nearby restaurant to open for lunch. I was cruising by the hamster cages when I saw this little fluff ball with white eyebrows. She took one look at me with this adorable look of surprise and scurried off to hide. A few seconds later, she came back out and started showing off on her wheel. I couldn't get over how small and cute she was. And I liked the fact that she didn't have a tail. (Those rats really creep me out!)

When we asked the store clerk about her, he said, "Oh, the Robo?"

We laughed and thought it was a pretty cool name for such a cute little creature.

"Are we really buying a hamster?" I asked my hubby as we pondered over cages. (We ended up buying the purple one, of course.) "It looks that way," he replied. Our shopping trip was cut short that day and  we never did make it to lunch. I couldn't be happier.

I named her Minny after my obsession with all things Minnesota. (It is The State of Hockey after all!) By the third day she was eating sunflower seeds out of my hand. I never even intended to interact with her much. I thought she could just run around on her wheel while I wrote my stories. But now she is a part of the family and my cat just loves to watch her.

So, the moral of the story is to keep an open mind because you never know what you might come home with.

SHOT AT THE NIGHT

I love this video from The Killers! So cute...I just had to share it with you.

It sort of reminds me of Olivia in Submersed, up in her hotel room looking down on the city of Las Vegas :)
